Obsterdorf

Ideally situated in the Western Alps in the Allgäu region of Germany close to the Austrian border, Oberstdorf (Oberstdorf vacation rentals | Oberstdorf travel guide) offers spectacular views and three ski areas to choose from: the Nebelhorn, Fellhorn/Kanzelwand, and Söllereck. There are also family-friendly ski areas with numerous skiing schools and kindergarten for the youngsters.

Obsterdorf is known as a car-free ski resort surrounded by the Western Bavarian Alps. A stones throw away from Austria, Obsterdorf boasts three different ski points to choose from: the Nebelhorn, Fellhorn/Kanzelwand, and Söllereck. The Nebelhorn is home to Germany’s longest downhill slope at the Nebelhorn cable lift (7.5 km!) and Germany’s longest ski tow at the Höllwieslift.

With 44,000 meters of downhill slopes (30,000 metres of which are virtually snow-safe), 29 different lifts, numerous cosy mountain lodges to stop and have a snack and powder snow and sun until you’re ready to drop... and last, but not least, there are any amount of interesting all-inclusive bargains it's not wonder that this region makes skiers mouths water.

For cross-country ski enthusiasts you can enjoy 85km of pristine high-altitude tracks, through tranquil valleys or along the demanding tracks of the Nordic world skiing championships. The cross-country courses here were awarded the four-star seal by the German Automobile Club. Whether you like skating or whether you prefer the "classic“ style, you’ll never find cross-country skiing dull in this region.
