Every year Germany's biggest and most famous Christmas Market opens its stalls for visitors from all over the world. Always at 5.30 pm on the Friday before the first Advent on Nuremberg’s Main Market Square the Christmas Angel opens the town's famous Christkindelsmarkt, reciting the solemn prologue from the gallery of the Church of Our Lady.

In more than 180 stalls you can buy and enjoy traditional wares, such as authentic Nuremberg (Nuremberg vacation rentals | Nuremberg travel guide) gingerbread, Nuremberg bratwurst, Christmas tree ornaments and candles and old—fashioned wooden toys. The possibly weirdest and certainly most popular souvenir to get is droll Nuremberg Plum People, little figures made from prunes.

There is not only shopping but a lot more to see and experience in Nuremberg: enchanting Christmas concerts in the churches, traditional Nativity scenes in the baroque church of St. Egidien and in Spitalgasse, an exhibition of historical market stalls in the town hall, Christmas for children on Hans—Sachs—Platz, the star theatre at St. Katharine's Abbey, the international market on Rathausplatz featuring Nuremberg's twin towns, arts and crafts in the Handwerkerhof, a torchlit procession to the castle, the Christmas cinemas and rides on a horse—drawn mail coach.

Especially in the early evening hours when all the Christmas lights are on and make the snow glistens, you will feel like you just stepped into a fairy tale. Get yourself some hot spiced wine and enjoy!
